Students at Greenfield Community College were treated to a fabulous live performance as part of TakeOff Festival produced by the renowned Theatre Hullabaloo recently. They visited both the Aycliffe site and Sunnydale campus with touring performers to entertain an audience of lively Year 7 students and local primary schools. The performance is part of the annual TakeOff Festival which brings the excitement of live theatre to young people in our region. Theatre Hullabaloo, who are based in Darlington arranged for the unique production of Fairytales Gone Bad: Zombie-Rella/Blood-Red Hood to reach a captivated audience of students. Talented performance poet Joseph Coelho from Half Moon Theatre ‘unravels’ well known fairytales by taking on the role of a mysterious vaudeville storyteller showing the humour in the darker side of fairytale endings with great enthusiasm and comedy. Performances like this are a brilliant tool in the classroom, lending to PSHE discussions about gender, cruelty, power. Sophie Lewis, Centre Co at Greenfield ordinator at Greenfield Arts, was thrilled with the performance and the reaction of the students, “it was brilliant to see the students enjoying live theatre at Greenfield, they all seemed to really have fun and enjoy the humour. It’s great to make a connection with our local primary schools and offer such a great opportunity”.
