A Time Limited Project to address ASB across the whole of Newton Aycliffe – met recently. Their primary aim was to allow the various services to share information and co-ordinate their response, and this is working better and better. They now have a system which maps every incident reported across the town to councils, wardens, police, fire etc. This helps identify areas – and individuals – in need of intervention.
A discussion followed on CCTV use, focusing on the Town Centre area.
The big news was that – with the exception of the Town Centre, which saw a moderate increase in ASB in August – there has been a HUGE reduction in ASB across the town.
Incidents in August-September 2016-2017 fell: 18 to 7 in Woodham, 40 to 19 in Horndale, 69 to 16 in the West Ward.
Members of the group suggested that part of this improvement is due to the better coordination of services the group has achieved. But they mainly attributed it to the active communities across the town, and the large number of events provided – the Horndale Residents Association was mentioned specifically, but the Town Council and many community groups have been proactive throughout the summer.
The Town Centre Management is facilitating a funfair at half term, 25th-28th October.
