A plan for reducing the harm caused by alcohol abuse will be presented to councillors this week.
Durham County Council’s Cabinet will be asked to approve the County Durham Alcohol Harm Reduction Strategy 2012-15 when they met at County Hall on Wednesday, 10th April.
The document is an updated version of a strategy originally launched in 2009 by the council and its partners, including County Durham PCT and Durham Constabulary, operating under the banner of the Safe Durham Partnership.
Since then, partner organisations have introduced a number of awareness raising campaigns, launched the Durham Recovery and Wellbeing Centre, established a multi-agency licensing team and provided alcohol awareness training to almost 4,000 people.
The refreshed strategy sets eight objectives which sit under three themes – prevention, control and treatment.
Progress against these objectives will be monitored by a Strategic Alcohol Group, including representatives from partner organisations.
