Sedgefield 75 Swimming Club sent five young swimmers to the Durham City Aquatics annual ‘Valentines’ swimming gala on the weekend of 5th-6th February and collectively turned in an excellent performance with 13 personal bests out of 15 swims.
Encouragingly, for the second competition in a row, two swimmers made their full competition debuts and both put in performances to be proud of and smashed their previous best times.
James Eley swam 50m freestyle beating his previous best by three seconds and then topped that the next day with a massive eight seconds improvement on his 50m butterfly. Jessica Bell was the other first-timer and she beat her entry time by over five seconds in 50m butterfly and over two seconds at 50m breaststroke in such good times that she won the silver medal in both events, making it a memorable first competition for her.
Mikey Riseborough was back for his second Sedgefield outing and swam three events and made good improvements to his 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke PB’s. Charlotte Lee had a successful gala setting new PB’s in 50 and 100m breaststroke, winning silver and gold respectively.
Ellis Dickinson continued his rapid improvement with over 36 seconds worth of PB’s over five events including a 23.5 second PB for 100m backstroke. Ellis was rewarded with his first medals, taking bronze in both 50m butterfly and 100m backstroke.
