The annual Swimathon organised by Rotary and Lion Clubs in the area was held at Spennymoor Leisure Centre last Sunday. Teams from local organisations swam in relay in competition for the most lengths swum in 55 minutes and for the highest sponsorship money raised for charity.
Monies raised are shared between the main charity, which this year was SSAFA, and the Swimming Team’s own nominated good cause or for their own club funds.
The event always has a great atmosphere as swimmers take to the water aiming to beat their record last year.
Chairman Gordon Howe from Newton Aycliffe Rotary Club, thanks all those who took part and supported the swimmers, not forgetting the volunteers who helped with lane counting, selling raffle tickets and the general administration. He looks forward to seeing many more teams taking part next year.
