Newton News has received letters of support for Derek Atkinson’s suggestion that Honest John should be recognised for his work in the community.
Maud Gray, a former Mayor, said she had nominated John for the County Chairman’s Award for two years and she is angry that someone seems to be stopping it going forward.
Mrs Humble of Bewick Crescent says there is no doubt John deserves recognition. His dedication to helping town organisations is well documented and his hard work over many years is well known and appreciated by numerous voluntary groups.
