Recently, during bird nesting box week, members of Rotary Newton Aycliffe and Sugar Hill RotaKids met with staff of Great Aycliffe Town Council with a nest box project in mind.
The pupils set off to walk, from school, the short distance to a small wooded area near Neville Parade. Along the route, Steve Cooper, from Great Aycliffe Town Council, organised a litter pick and the result was five bags of rubbish cleared from our streets by the RotaKids.
When we arrived at the woodland site, Steve gave a short talk on the importance of taking care of our wildlife, then great fun was had choosing trees for the nest boxes.
Many thanks to James from Great Aycliffe Town Council for his assistance in safely hanging the boxes and to Steve for leading the project on our behalf. Special thanks also to Deputy Head, Kathy Legge, for her guidance.
A great time was had by all and we are so proud of our RotaKids.
