Sedgefield 75 Swimming Club have started the new season with a string of successful events. Three of the masters’ swimmers competed at the National Masters Short Course championships in Sheffield. Philip Walker finished in bronze position in the 100m Individual Medley and he swam the 100 backstroke in a time of 59.66 seconds, only the 2nd person in the clubs history to achieve this feat.
Gillian Hook finished 3rd in the 200m breaststroke and Elisabeth Yaneske finished 4th in the 800m freestyle. Elisabeth has just returned from the Scottish Masters which was held last weekend in Glasgow swimming in the 1500m event and coming away with a silver medal.
Sedgefield 75 swimming club have recently taken part in the annual Wear Valley Guys Fawkes meet and after a successful weekend came away with a total of 20 medals. This was an outstanding achievement considering the squad was mostly made up of young and novice swimmers, Alyssa Craggs (11) lead the medal count with 4 gold and 2 silver followed by Jessica Longmire (15) with 3 silver and 1 bronze, Claudia Chapman 1 silver 2 bronze, Harry Ward (14) 1 silver 1 bronze, Damian Lawson 2 bronze & Callum Cook (13), Mattie Walker-smith (12) and Megan Baker (16) all winning a bronze respectively, other squad members Haydn Craggs (10), Anna Chaytor (12) and Maisie Nicolson (9) achieved personal bests.
This success comes after Sedgefield 75 being awarded District Junior Sports Club of the Year and John Moore winning County Coach of the Year. Club Chairperson Glen Longmire stated “this has been an outstanding year for the club as we have achieved great results at all levels of competition both in and out of the water, all down to the hard work and dedication of the swimmers, coaches and parents, and hopefully we can continue this in 2013”.
