Woodham Academy has been working with Gestamp Tallent for the fifth consecutive year to support recruitment of more apprentices to its international engineering and manufacturing company. Students have had the opportunity to work with a real life employer in a ‘Lord Sugar-style’ challenge. Over a five week period students competed in a range of challenges linked with business, which were judged on a weekly basis by representatives from the company.
Students then visited the plant and completed a further series of interview tasks. The company has again been delighted with the quality of the students and has decided to offer three full apprenticeships. The successful candidates were Alex Coatsworth, Kearen Burke and Jack Howarth.
The apprentice opportunities offer students the ability to carry on studying in the workplace, whilst also having the option to continue studying up to and beyond degree level. Out of the three students Alex Coatsworth, pictured below, received the annual Apprentice Trophy from Mr Groves, at the school’s annual prom. Alex was applauded by Gestamp, and identified as the overall outstanding individual involved in the process.
Deputy Headteacher Jonathan Lumb said “This is another amazing opportunity for Woodham Academy students to gain employment with an international company. It is testimony to the calibre of students that we are producing that Gestamp Tallent have offered three apprenticeships. I am sure the students are going to go on and be very successful working with Gestamp Tallent. We wish all three of the students, who have been successful with this challenge, the best of luck for the future.”
