Last week 17 Greenfield Community College students had a unique and valuable opportunity to talk business innovation and technology with Google UK & Ireland’s Managing Director, Eileen Naughton as part of a “Google Hangout” and the “Speakers for Schools” programme.
After a talk from Eileen about her career and work at Google, Greenfield were one of three schools chosen in the UK to be part of a Q&A, which was live streamed on Google Hangouts. The students asked three questions: “How does Google help protect the intellectual property posted online and how is this protection enforced?” “How does Google plan to develop more opportunities for small businesses to globally connect?” “Its inspirational to have such a strong female role model, what steps within your education did you take to get where you are now, and what advice would you give to others?”
The group of students spent time beforehand coming up with questions and were pleased and inspired by Eileen’s answers, which provided insight into her position at Google and the process and steps she took to get to her current position. This was a great opportunity for them to talk to a woman whose career has included a high level position at the Time Warner group and a previous position for Google in the Americas, as Vice President of Global Sales, setting an example and hopefully raising aspirations of those students involved and those watching via the live stream.
Greenfield were pleased to have been chosen to be a part of this “Speakers for Schools” live show, it was a fantastic opportunity for our students as one of three schools taking part, using the technology in Room 13 and supported by the Greenfield Arts team. Thank you to Google and Speakers for Schools for choosing Greenfield!
