A brand new Flight Club has been launched at Woodham Academy. Over a twelve week period, year 9 Engineering students are gearing up to learn about aero-engineering, the theory of flight, and how to build a radio-controlled plane.
At the invitation of Teesside Model Flying Club, the Academy plans to fly the school plane at the flying club’s annual Air Show as part of the fly past.
Woodham Academy Flight Club is held at South West Durham Training Centre, which has strong connections with aviation. In the 1950’s it was officially opened by Grp Capt. Sir Douglas Bader, who was famously featured in the film “Reach for the Sky”.
