A gigantic Cake Sale has been organised at Woodham Academy to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Year 7 students worked in teams to plan and deliver the event during lunchtime on Thursday 20th October as part of a learning project. Students have been learning about four key skills in their weekly Woodham Learning class; Resourcefulness, Resilience, Reflection and Respect. The cake sale is an annual event led entirely by students. Teams had to think about who will be making the cakes, the cost of ingredients, delivering the cakes to school, as well as preparing for the sale itself. They also had to think about the organisation of stalls, presentation, money float and managing sales and demand. Among the twenty plus stalls there were creepy coffin cupcakes, scary spider slices, favourites such as butterfly cakes and double chocolate sponge cakes as well as cake pops, brownies and biscuits. Head of Learning for Year 7, Mrs McGinnety, said; ‘The charity cake sale is always a brilliant success. Our Year 7 students have made an excellent effort with all aspects of the Sale. The hall was bustling during lunch time which shows how well received the event is by staff and students at Woodham Academy.’ The cake sale raised £170 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
