An exciting educational after school session is due to take place at Woodham Academy for primary school students. The school is inviting Year 5 and Year 6 students to take part in the Sparkies Science Club on the 25th January. The sessions, which will run every half term, are designed to educate students in a fun and informal way about all things science. The Woodham Sparkies Science Club, which has been running for a number of years now, engages youngsters in a world of experiments and explosions as well as exploring topics such as atoms, patterns, volcanoes and astronomy. The first session of the year will look at microbiology.
Students will discover how a Students Invited to “Sparkies” Event reaction to heat causes yeast to rise and make bread. All primary school students are welcome to attend the sessions. Parents are asked to sign their child in at reception and are welcome to stay for the duration or come back at the end. Head of Science, Mr Jenkins, said: ‘The Sparkies Science Club is a great opportunity for younger students to come to Woodham and see what a laboratory looks like. We have invested £150,000 in to the science department by refurbishing three science laboratories and purchasing new equipment. Science is fun and we want to demonstrate that during the sessions. The club will take place on the following dates; 25th January, 15th March, 10th May and the 21st June. Sessions will start at 4.30pm and run until 6.00pm.
