On Thursday 6th February pupils at two Newton Aycliffe schools were joined by representatives from North East company Orange Bus to hear more about the opportunities for careers in the creative industry.
Julian Leighton, one of the founders of Orange Bus spoke to students alongside Mark Bishop, one of the designers at the company. The students heard about how the company was formed and what it takes to be a designer, as well as the other jobs available in the industry.
The talk was part of a larger project which has been funded by GAMP AAP and managed by Greenfield Arts: “Equipped for Life.” The project includes the talks to students and a 2 day residency for young people at Greenfield Arts learning new skills, exploring their design ideas and realising them into a finished product on Monday 17th & Tuesday 18th February at Greenfield Arts. During the residency the students will be able to use new equipment purchased by the project, which will remain after the project to be accessed by local young people, artists and the community.
The designs produced by the students during the residency will be judged by representatives from Orange Bus and the winning design will be used to promote the new facility to the public, on the web and in print.
Orange Bus is an award winning digital agency providing strategic technical and design expertise to create amazing online experiences. They are based in Newcastle (soon expanding to London) and have many high profile clients including Philips, Newcastle City Council, Teachers Pensions and Pearson Education.
