Students from Woodham Academy found themselves in the court room last week as they experienced a mock case. Able and Talented students from Year 10 were taking part in an educational visit to Northumbria University to learn about courses and career opportunities in Law.
They took part in a variety of activities designed to give them a true feel of life as a solicitor and barrister. This included a visit to Dickinson Dees Solicitors.
Keira Durham commented “This was a really enjoyable day . I learnt a lot about the skills needed to work in Law. I haven’t decided exactly what career I would like to pursue but Law is certainly worth considering”.
This is one of several opportunities provided for the Most Able and Talented students at Woodham. A further ten students have recently attended a conference at Durham University aimed specifically at able students. Students listened to a variety of inspirational, academic key note speakers, whose thought provoking topics stimulated the thoughts of those who attended.
Opportunities for students continue into next week when a further group of Year 10 students will be visiting the University of York to discover courses and careers in Medicine.
Woodham Academy is committed to raising the aspirations of all its students, with the most able being no exception. In the summer exams Woodham Academy hit a record figure with 33% of its students achieving 3 or more A*/A grades at the end of Year 11.
