13th November saw the return of the annual Children in Need fund raising event at Woodham Academy. We have raised money for the past 10 years, organised by Jenny McLean, Student Welfare Officer. The whole school participated with sponsored silences, fancy dress and the sale of raffle tickets to win a Pudsey cake made by resident Chef Linda Vipond. In addition other treats were made and sold by students during break and lunch time.
The day was a resounding success, allowing a day of fun to be both constructive in terms of raising money and awareness for Children in Need. it started with a guest appearance from Pudsey himself who welcomed the students into school, joining yr7 students at assembly time. He was so impressed with our students he decided to stay for the yr7 disco at lunch time. The students said it’s the best disco they have ever been to.
Throughout the day, students braved the cold dressed in their pyjamas and onesies. All Y7 students were encouraged to take part, some organising sponsored silence and fancy dress such as batman, fairies and Elsa from Frozen. Yr11 students Thomas Gallagher and George Slatcher braved the cold weather dressing as the 118 men.
The students made a massive effort in both raising money and a positive attitude towards the event. As a result the students, teachers, staff and other contributors managed to raise a very impressive amount of money. Thank you to parents for supporting the charity and providing fantastic costumes.
