During the summer holidays a group of 12 new, Year 7 students joined Greenfield Arts and staff from Greenfield Community College for a week of fun school activity.
The programme included a range of activities, designed to prepare the students for what’s to come next year, whilst giving them the opportunity to meet some of their future class mates.
The group took part in team work and drama activities each morning, before spending time experimenting using arts and science. They spent one day in the food technology department, creating their own pizzas, smoothies and muffins from scratch. At the end of the week the group took a trip to Yorkshire Sculpture Park in Wakefield, accompanied by staff from Greenfield and artist Jilly Greenwood. During the trip they used sketchbooks, made by the students earlier in the week, to capture the artworks they found interesting.
Their final day was spent with Jilly, casting their own fascinating group sculpture. Without even realising it they were reinforcing their literacy and numeracy skills through a creative approach to learning.
Throughout the week the group worked well together, and had a great time – well done to those who took part, and we look forward to seeing your future achievements at Greenfield!
