Stillers, the family run storage and distribution company on the Business Park is expanding quickly due to high demand for its very efficient service. New contracts have been gained, new premises opened and a £300k investment in new vehicles.
The only drawback is a national shortage of drivers and Stillers are tackling this problem locally with a robust training programme for local and European workers. The industry has an ageing workforce and new EU regulations, requiring 35 hours approved training, are forcing early retirement and exacerbating the problem.
Managing Director Paul Stiller told Newton News his company had a good recruitment strategy including in-house training for former soldiers, internal warehouse staff and young prospective drivers, over 21, wanting to join Stillers. There are currently three vacancies and ten more will be available in the New Year.
Driving is a skilled job nowadays needing attention to detail, technical know-how and good customer relations. All this is taught at Stillers who also have the most up-to-date in-cab equipment to help their drivers. They also prepare drivers for the EU Certificate of Competency.
Paul has just recruited a qualified driver from Romania, Adrian Moldovan, who is currently lodging in Newton Aycliffe, hoping to bring his wife and new baby to live with him in a few months. He would be happy to get together with any other Romanian living in Aycliffe.
Anyone interested in a driving job with Stillers should contact Julie Gilpin on 313140. The job offers day or night time work and Adrian will initially be working nights delivering goods to distribution hubs in the region.
