Pupils at Horndale County Infant & Nursery School have been busy collecting ’Aldi’s Kit for Schools’ stickers during the Autumn Term. Pupils whose parents shop at the local Aldi store were asked to collect stickers for every £30 spent. These were collected in school and pupils have been busy sticking them every day whilst completing healthy challenges during assembly.
For each completed poster schools are entered into a prize draw to win £20,000 and will also receive their very own Sports Kit. The prize money must be used to kick start a Health Legacy at the school.
Headteacher, Craig Brown, stated “At Horndale, we plan to leave a lasting health legacy by using the funding to source a wide range of equipment in order to run regular workshops for parents about healthy eating and planning meals for a balanced diet. Pupils will gain increased awareness of cooking skills so that they can consciously make the right decisions with their food choices.
We plan to update and enhance our outdoor equipment that can be used by pupils during, and outside of, school hours in order to improve their personal health. We would ensure that these benefits are open to not only the pupils at Horndale but the wider community.”
Pupils are now waiting anxiously for the sports kits to arrive and to find out if they have won the cash prize having filled four posters! Watch this space Newton Aycliffe!
