This Friday, 27th May, is ‘Local Radio Day’ at Star Radio, who serve County Durham, Darlington and North Yorkshire.
Star’s MD John Clayton explained “the day is all about celebrating the impact that ‘proper local radio’ has within a community it serves, delivering local news first, interviews and opinion from local and influential figure heads and supporting local businesses, artists and charities.”
Recently re-elected as Police and Crime Commissioner for County Durham and Darlington, Ron Hogg said “Local radio and Star’s place in the community is vital. I can’t go and knock on every door across County Durham and Darlington, but you guys have that reach, so I thank you for everything you have done”.
Part of the day included a live auction taking place on air, where Beefy’s (Sir Ian Botham) Charity Foundation will benefit, providing much needed funds for its five nominated charities – Brain Tumour Research and Support; Batten Disease Family Association; Cardiac Risk in the Young; Bloodwise and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Lady Kathryn Botham, President of the Beefy Charity Foundations said “we are really excited about the day and recognise the positive impact that Star Radio has made, supporting the Foundation for some 2 years or so now”.
John Clayton – MD for Star Radio went on to explain “this is all happening at a hugely exciting time for us, what with the news of our latest audience figures, proving that Local Radio, really does cut through, having accomplished record market share and total listening hours, along with hitting 50,000 listeners across the week, all coupled with a slight re-branding also happening on the 27th May.”
The day also celebrates the official launch of Star Giving, the charity arm of Star Radio. Pam Royle – ITV Tyne Tees, news anchor, is one of the patrons for Star Giving. She said” I am thrilled to be a patron for Star Radio and Star Giving. I was involved at the inception of this great radio station and I am delighted that it has so quickly found it’s place in people’s hearts.
