On Tuesday, 23rd February, the children in Year 3 at St. Mary’s R.C Primary visited the Seven Stories Museum in Newcastle. We have been learning about traditional stories and this trip was designed to celebrate our learning. We learnt   about   different rhymes across the world and got to see what it was like in different exhibitions.
When we got there we were met by Professor Charlotte and Professor Aaron who took us down some amazing spiral stairs. This led us into a workshop where we worked in teams to do lots of fun activities, from drawing shapes, to the final aim of illustrating a Nursery Rhyme that we enjoyed. We were allowed to choose how we could do this, from painting to collage to pencil drawings.
Before lunch we took another trip down the stairs and explored one of the Galleries; the first of these we explored was called ‘Rhyme across the World’. There were lots of interactive areas for us to explore. We even got the chance to dress up. We had to explore different areas of the gallery, by us all being given a jigsaw piece that we had to find where it belonged in the room- it was fun!
After lunch we explored another amazing Gallery- this was all about the Illustrator Michael Foreman – we saw some beautiful artwork.  We now know why the museum was called Seven Stories, as we were kept fit by walking up the seven flights of stairs during the day. Our Bus driver from J and C coaches was very friendly   too and made sure we had a safe journey and we got back to school before home time.
A few quotes…. “I loved the Galleries, as there were loads of amazing drawings”. “It was the best trip ever – I really enjoyed it”, “It was a fun and calm place to be.” “I learnt a lot more about how to write and illustrate stories.”
