The Xcel Centre has become a favourite venue for St John’s School & Sixth Form College, a Catholic Academy, Bishop Auckland to hold their day retreats. Last week it was the turn of Year 11 to spend the day at the Centre reflecting on their time so far at St John’s and the milestones along the way of their personal spiritual journeys.

They spent some time comparing their feelings to family friends and school in Year 7 to how they feel now. They had the opportunity to validate each other and receive validation from their tutors. This allowed students to recognize qualities in themselves and others.

Led by School Chaplain, Emma Ramsey they reflected on the Parable of the Talents and produced their own adaptation of the parable. At the end of the retreat every student was given an envelope containing a prayer card with another student’s name on and they were asked to be that student’s guardian angel for the rest of year 11. Students appreciated the opportunity to step away from school and reflect on how they have moved on and how they can take charge of their futures.

Once again thanks to the Xcel Centre for the use of their fantastic facilities and the warm welcome we always receive.
