Two students from St John’s School & Sixth Form College represented the UK at a conference in Berlin on the 7th & 8th February as part of the Make IT Safe programme.  Alongside ECPAT UK & the European Commission’s ‘Daphne’ programme, Marie & Sam, both Year 12 students, travelled by train to Luton before flying to Berlin to work alongside their peers from the Netherlands, Austria, Belgium & Germany.
Presentations were given by leading experts in the field of internet safety and child exploitation.
Marie and Sam also spent time working with the other Peer Experts from around Europe discussing their role within school, best practice & how to develop sustainability for the project.
Following the conference, Marie & Sam will be feeding back to the Digital Leaders in school to help develop workshops and resources to be used in school to make students more aware of the dangers of being online & how to protect yourself from these dangers.
ECPAT UK has worked alongside St John’s Digital Leaders to develop their understanding of the role of peer experts & trained 10 students within the school who will now work to promote safe use of the internet.  Further workshops & training will take place throughout the academic year.
