On Wednesday 25th September St John’s School & Sixth Form College, Bishop Auckland held its annual Sports Awards Evening. During the first half of the evening students received either half or full colours for showing commitment, dedication and high performance levels in their sporting activities. This year St John’s had one of its most successful years collecting 43 trophies over the course of the academic year so averaging more than one per week. The roll of honour saw these collected and presented together.
After the interval inspirational Paralympic 2012 Gold Medalist, World Record Holder and Young Sports Personality of the Year, Josef Craig MBE, spoke of his journey towards Paralympic success. It was a truly amazing and honest speech which received a standing ovation for the powerful messages it delivered. The evening ended with the individual awards. Ashlyn Bland received the Vitrix Ledorum Senior, Sportswoman of the year and an Eagle Award nomination for her amazing national swimming achievements. The Eagle Award was won by rugby player, Michael Walton who represented England during Year 11. Michael kindly presented the school with his England Shirt in thanks for the support from St John’s and the PE Department.
