Well done to 13 Spectrum roller skaters who took part in The Great British Children’s Challenge – Kindness Counts and were awarded their medals this weekend.
The skaters aged 5-13 based at Spectrum Roller Skating Club who train at Shildon Sunnydale Leisure Centre in Shildon recorded their acts of kindness over the festive period and submitted them to the online challenge for children.
Liam Stevens, Erin Marambe, Ella Newson, Amber Wearmouth, Anna Marambe, Iris Comerford, Jazzmyn Loring, Kam Comerford, Matthew Bowden, Maddison Longstaff-Jones, Katie Bowden, Niamh Dawson and Aysha Toms in the run up to Christmas took part in several activities and donated coats, clothes and toys to charity, made cups of tea, helped with housework, cleaned up litter, cleaned cars, donated tins to a local food bank, gave foot massages, made cakes and biscuits, helped with fundraising, looked after siblings, gave hugs and helped friends, looked after pets, helped with food shopping, took plates away and washed up, decorated and hid rocks with kind messages, helped put up Christmas decorations, handed out Christmas cards, prepared and cooked family meals, helped other skaters change wheels, supported charities, sang carols and gave presents to the residents of Shildon as part of Shildon Alive’s Mini Santa’s.
“The children are learning how small acts of kindness have a rippled effect and the importance of being kind within a team. I am so proud of the skaters and families who support them at Spectrum Roller Skating Club and all they have achieved during this project. The skaters have improved their own well being and confidence as well as helping others” said coach, Tracy Stevens.
