Steven Corner (43) has published a novel entitled “A Dream from the Somme”. He is currently serving with 102 Battalion REME (Army Reserve) in Aycliffe and has lived in the town since 1977.
He moved here from Chester with his family and attended the Avenue Comprehensive later gaining an Engineering Degree from Newcastle University.
Steven is Married to Sarah who is an NHS Practice Manager. He undertook Royal Marine Commando training to earn his Green Beret in 1995.
Newton News reported on the charity run in 1998 which he organised with the Royal Marines for St Theresa’s Hospice. He works as an Electrical & Electronics Engineering Lecturer at Darlington College where he developed an inert device simulator regularly used by 102 Battalion. The College is now working on smaller devices to sell to the Army using the latest technology.
The book started as a short story entered into the Sid Chaplin competition which Steven susequently extended to a full novel.
