Readers may have noticed a construction site entrance on School Aycliffe Lane and wondered what was happening. This is the entrance for Lightsource Renewable Energy establishing a Solar Farm on vacant land between the village and the Business Park.
The application to convert two fields off School Aycliffe Lane into a 24 acre solar farm was agreed by Durham County Council and Darlington Borough Council in the summer and will generate enough electricity to power 1,200 homes.
Objections from three nearby residents had been lodged, but Council officers say the proposal is in line with planning policy.
