Sisters of Support CIC are over the moon to announce that we are finalists in the Health and Wellbeing Award category at the County Durham Together Awards 2024.
This award celebrates projects that make a real difference in health and wellbeing by providing vital support, advice and care to the community. The awards take place on Thursday 5th December, our directors, along with some of our corporate partners, Perfect Care, will be attending to celebrate with all the other amazing finalists.
SOS was founded in June 2021 by Carrie and Amy. Identifying, through personal experience, a lack of mental health support for women in our area. The Newton Aycliffe group has run since then. Sisters of Support is a women’s mental health, free to attend, peer-led support group, geared to supporting women (over 18 only) in our community who may be struggling with their mental health or just the everyday pressures of modern living. We provide a safe environment where women can talk, be listened to, without being judged and feel confident enough to share their thoughts, fears and concerns surrounding their mental, emotional and physical wellbeing. We want to end the idea, women talk, most need support to be able to open up and talk freely while feeling safe. #weARElistening
Carrie Howarth, Founder and Director for Sisters of Support, had this to say on the awards, “We’re absolutely elated to be recognised for all the hard work and commitment ourselves, and our team, have put in place in the last three and a half years. Being named finalists in these awards is an amazing achievement and we are overwhelmed to even be nominated and so thankful and happy to celebrate this with our community and wider leadership team.
“We can’t wait for the awards night to meet and celebrate all these awards, with all the other nominees. We do what we do with the support of other fantastic services around us, to be alongside a few of these at the awards is amazing.
“We would just like to thank all those who have supported us, the ladies who have used our services, and those that have noticed the work we do. We appreciate all of it so much and look forward to the exciting future we have. Whether we win the award or not, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
