Dear Sir,
I enjoy the Newton News including the letters from local people and from representatives of local Political Parties. Not being attached to any particular political party I get frustrated at some of the almost childish comments made by some political contributors. The latest from Alan Jordan (31/7/2020).
I don’t know Mr Jordan, but can only guess at his political leanings. He is anti Boris and anti Tory but his recent comments in local newspapers and Newton News are verging on the laughable.
He calls the Tories a “cowed and subservient party”. He doesn’t explain this or produce any evidence for his comments. The recent General Election results gives the lie to that comment. Our newly elected MP is criticised for not doing what Mr Jordan thinks he should do. Elsewhere he rants on about Boris and the Tories claiming that we should ignore Boris and his rhetoric and concentrate on what he does with his almost inevitable bad consequences.
I am no fan of Boris, await the inevitable, justifiable enquiry, into the handling of the Corona Virus by his government, Mr Jordan rants on, but offers no substantive evidence to back up his claims. He ignores the Governments Furlough scheme which has helped millions of workers; he ignores the governments programme to increase house building and other government plans to help the economy and the positive progress being made in tackling the Covid pandemic, albeit possibly late, and not as effective as it could have been. Facts are a damaging truth for Mr Jordan and his rants, they don’t sit well with his anti government diatribes.
My advice to readers is to do some simple research of readily available facts, make your own mind up and ignore Mr Jordan and his almost childish rants.
John Walker, Newton Aycliffe.
