Silver medals adorn the necks of two Year 6 boys from Stephenson Way Academy following sporting success at the Schools County Games last week.
Both Finnley and Dominic were unaware of their amazing potential in the relatively unknown discipline of New Age Kurling until they were chosen to represent the school earlier this year. From the outset it was clear that the pair not only had a meticulous eye for the target and an astonishing aim but that they worked fabulously well as part of a team.
It was these attributes that led them to victory in the group stages and secured their spot in the County Finals, held in Barnard Castle School.
Across the course of the day, the dynamic duo faced a series of tough competitors from across County Durham. Stephenson Way’s PE Leader, Miss Whitfield, who accompanied the boys acknowledged their determination by saying, “There were one or two tense moments, but the boys maintained their composure against the best of the best and used their strategic skills exceptionally well. They represented the school brilliantly and did themselves proud.” Congratulations to both boys for placing second in the whole county in this wonderful sport.
