As an extension to our Community Safety Project that we have delivered over the last couple of years alongside the Fire Service and funded by GAMP the Newton Aycliffe Neighbourhood Police Team have acquired stocks of SelectaDNA which we intend to roll out across the Newton Aycliffe area over the next few weeks.

This is used to mark property by registering a unique DNA code onto a secure database. SelectaDNA property markers contain thousands of microdots which allows Police to identify recovered or seized property. UV tracers are incorporated into SelectaDNA to make it easier to find thieves who have been sprayed with SelectaDNA and come into contact with property that has been marked.

The Neighbourhood Policing Team will be holding a number of drop in events where members of the community are invited to come along with items (if small enough for transport naturally) to be marked with SelectaDNA. Alternately we will conduct home/business visits on request. If you are interested then please contact the Team privately via message to their Facebook page or send a DM to Inspector Mark Edwards on his Twitter page @Aycliffe_FiveO.
