Sedgefield 75 Swimming Club had three swimmers at the Northumberland and Durham Masters Championships at Durham’s Freemans Key pool on 29th June.
Gillian Hooke competed in several events and won the top woman swimmer in her age group, obtaining personal bests in several of her events and swimming strongly in her breaststroke races. Elizabeth Yaneske also swam well in her events with an outstanding performances in all her freestyle races with many personal bests. Hayley Bradley competing in her first masters gala did well in her swims and took second place in her age group with strong performances on the 100 metres freestyle and 50 metres butterfly.
All of the swimmers were very pleased with their performances.
Matthew Bradley aged 16 competed on the 24th and 25th June at the British Gas International Meet at the Manchester Aquatics Centre. Matthew performed well in the 50 metres breaststroke against strong competition and also took part in the 100 metres breaststroke narrowly missing out on a place in the final.
Matthew went on to compete for the North Eastern Division English Schools Swimming Association interdivisional team championships at the Hengrove Park Pool in Bristol on the 28th and 29th June. Matthew competed in the 4 x 100 metres freestyle relay team and the 4 x 100 metres medley relay team. The freestyle team broke the existing ESSA record taking 1st place against very strong competition from the other seven divisions.
They took 3rd place in the medley relay. Matthew also competed individually in the 100 metres breaststroke taking 5th place and the 100 metres freestyle races taking 4th place in both races. The North Eastern Division team took overall first place in the competition and are looking forward to defending their title next year on home ground at the Sunderland Aquatics Centre.
