On Wednesday 20th June schools across the Sedgefield area took part in their own Olympic Opening Ceremony for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
As a school Greenfield have been upholding all the values of the games across many departments and celebrating the Olympics through lots of activities. The ceremony was to demonstrate and exhibit our commitment to the Olympic Games, for example, we had a huge area displaying work from Geography, English, COPE, Creative and Media.
We had music and photos to inspire other young people to be a part of the games, our own Torch bearer Sam Dawson to share his experiences of the Torch Relay, a hula hoop challenge to try and achieve excellence and determined to be the best, even our individualised Greenfield Olympic Cupcakes designed by Miss Thurley (very tasty).
After the success of our exhibition, we moved into the main event of the night the showcase of all schools. Like the Olympic Ceremony we had a parade of all schools with our specially designed flag by Mitchell Dilley (Year 8) where many members of the public commented on how fantastic it was. A special Olympic Guest Craig Heap (Gymnast) made an inspirational speech to share his amazing story of how he became one of the best British Gymnasts. I think he was particular impressed with our Cupcakes and would like to sample more by coming into Greenfield?
Finally our dancers were fantastic, a real credit to the school where their piece definitely was a true Olympic Gold Medal performance!!
Thanks to all parents and staff who came and supported and a big thanks to Courtnie Mills, Kara Elston, Zoe Blakey, Sam Dobinson, Ben Potts, Rachel Layfield Carroll, Sam Dawson, Izzy Gardner and all the Greenfield Dancers for their time and efforts in truly making Greenfield proud!!
Miss Barnes.
