On Thursday, 7th March Year 3 and 4 pupils from St. Mary’s Primary School went to Darlington Civic Theatre to watch ‘James and the Giant Peach’.
Children have been examining the work of Roald Dahl and his unique writing style and the exciting way he describes his characters. They have been reading the story as part of their class reader and children have all learnt a lot seeing their story being brought to life on stage! We hope this will be the first of many cultural experiences for our children.
Here are some of our children’s thoughts about the play….
“I think the story is like Cinderella, because Aunt Sponge and Aunt Spiker are like the ugly sisters as they are bossy and make James do all the work.”
“I think the story is like Jack and the Beanstalk as James is given some magic beans, just like Jack.”
“The play was exciting! I cannot wait to go to the theatre again.”
“James and the Giant Peach is like all traditional tales as they all live happily ever after.” By Year 3
