Local Illustrator and Textile artist, Sharron Bates recently taught 34 children to paint on silk in one day! The silk painting day was held at Woodham Burn Out of School Club, Newton Aycliffe on Wednesday 19th August.
Sharron said: “Silk Painting is an accessible and fun filled process. During the carefully guided activity, the children produced their very own vibrant painting on heavy weight habotai silk, using either their own drawings or stencils.
This silk painting day was designed to encourage active, hands-on learning and creative thinking.
The children learnt how silk is ‘stretched’ for painting and how to apply gutta and silk dyes. At the end of the day 34 children each produced a beautiful piece of their very own art on silk!”
Manager Kendra Green said the children thoroughly enjoyed the day and many parents were over the moon with their children’s artwork.
Sharron also hosts evening silk painting classes for adults at Greenfield Arts in Newton Aycliffe. The next round of classes begin on Wednesday 30th September. Please ring 01325 379048 for more details.
