On Sunday 30th June 2013, St. Mary’s School Choir were privileged to take part in a celebration concert to launch the arrival of the Lindisfarne Gospels to Durham Cathedral.
After practicing for 3 weeks, with an extra special session with Mish Kelly from the cathedral, and a last session with five other schools – and receiving commemorative T shirts – they gathered in the cathedral with the Lindisfarne Gospels’ Community Choir for a photograph. They then sang in the cloisters of the cathedral in front of invited guests, visitors to the cathedral, parents and friends. Sadie said ‘I was nervous watching all the people before we started singing, but once we started singing it was really fun.’ ‘I loved our last song about Mozart, it made everyone laugh’ giggled Natasha.
It was a choir of over 200 who sang songs and hymns to welcome the gospels, finishing with the whole assembly of choir and audience singing Jerusalem. ‘It was exciting singing in front of so many people’ said Eve and Faye.
