On Saturday 23rd December three members of Aycliffe Running Club travelled to Gateshead to take part in England’s oldest road race, the Ronnie Walker 10K.
The race is held every year on the Saturday before Christmas. The undulating course consisted of 3 laps through parkland and closed roads in and around Saltwell Park. Weather was extremely mild for the time of year and some runners wore festive outfits. First to complete the race for ARC was Alan Wilks in 47:52 followed by Trish Kay in 50:58 and Ian Baronowski in 01:01:52.
All runners were given an engraved glass and miniature bottle of whisky for completing the race.
