It has been another busy week for Aycliffe Running Club with some excellent performances and achievements this week.
This week saw three members travel to York for the Run for All Yorkshire Marathon, running 26.2 miles around York City and the surrounding area. Richard Trowles managed to break the 3 hour barrier for the first time, finishing in a time of 2:56:21 which is an amazing achievement considering he was suffering with illness throughout the race. Daniel Tatham also ran an excellent race finishing in a time of 4:21:17 making up for his previous marathon where he was severely impacted through injury. David Stothard also completed the course, finishing in a time of 5:04:54. An amazing achievement by all three runners.
At the same time, two members took part in the Run for All Yorkshire 10 mile event, with Richard Tonge (1:46:08) and Ian Stothard (1:49:20) both representing the club.
On the same day, 12 members travelled to Scarborough for the Yorkshire Coast 10k. This saw members take on an out and back route along the coast at Scarborough in sunny but windy conditions, it was a nice test for members. Out of a field of 1,689 runners, John Surtees ran an excellent race finishing eighth in a time of 35:18. Also taking part were Tracey Surtees (40:39), Gary O’Connor (41:59) who ran an excellent race as he continues to recover from an injury. Paul Dalton (42:46) and Stuart Joyce (44:40) were also continuing with their recoveries from injury. Others taking part were Kevin Tatham (50:58), Trish Kay (53:32) who was third in the female over 60 category, Carley Cooper (54:25), Eve Doe (1:03:53) who amazingly has achieved a new personal best in every race that she has run since the Great North Run. Em Flynn (1:05:26) continued with her excellent progress running her fastest 10k for over two years. Jayne Rudd (1:06:23) and Kirsty Cameron (1:06:24) both completed the race together.
On Saturday, 31 members started their weekend with a parkrun, taking in the Woodbank, Town Moor, Sedgefield, Darlington South Park, Hackworth, Hartlepool, Flatts Lane, Wynyard Woodland and Thorp Perrow events.
At Woodbank, Rob Young completed the course for the first time, finishing in a time of 21:33. At Darlington South Park, Trevor Agnew set a new personal best of 21:24 with Jimmy Agnew (22:23) managing to trim another 10 seconds off his previous personal best which has seen him improve his time in each of the last four weeks.
At Hackworth, Bernadette Cooper finished as second lady in a time of 23:10. Over at Hartlepool, Tracey Pickering (33:13) and Cliff Pickering (34:43) both completed the course for the first time. Richard Holland (21:04) completed the event at Wynyard Woodland for the first time with Mark Bainbridge (23:15) setting a new personal best for this course. Kirsty Cameron (33:28) also set a new personal best for this course.
Five members travelled to Thorp Perrow for the first time and commented on it being one of their favourite courses to run on. Representing the club were David Stothard (27:10), Carley Cooper (29:25), Sandrine Hewitt (31:18), Ian Stothard (32:43) and Em Flynn (36:20).
