It has been another busy week for Aycliffe Running Club as the races continue to come thick and fast through the summer.
On 20th August, two members took part in the Dalton Park 10 miler with Carley Gibson (1:41:50) and Em Flynn (1:54:04) both continuing their excellent form. On the same day two members took part in the Leeds Running Festival 10k with David Stothard (59:42) and Ian Stothard (1:11:26) both representing the club.
On Saturday, 25 members started their weekend with a parkrun, taking in the Edinburgh, Sedgefield, Riverside, Darlington South Park, Hackworth, Hartleppol, Millfield, Leazes, Hamsterley Forest, Wynyard Woodland, Denton Dene and Epworth Equestrian events.
At Edinburgh, David Stothard completed the event for the first time finishing in a time of 26:01. At Darlington South Park, Ian Stothard completed the course for the 75th time, finishing in a time of 42:12.
At Millfield, Carley Gibson (28:51), Sandrine Hewitt (31:01) and Em Flynn (33:09), all completed the event for the first time. At Hackworth, Bernadette Cooper finished as first lady in a time of 24:30. Over at Hartlepool, Angela Sutheran finished as third lady in a time of 23:58.

A special mention this week for Melanie Rowland who was involved in a serious accident six years ago which has seen her have to learn to swim and run again. Melanie took part in the English Aquathlon championships which saw competitors swim 750 metres in the sea, followed by a 5k run. Melanie showed all of her determination to finish second in her age group, an amazing achievement. Everyone at the club is proud of Mel’s achievements and she is an inspiration to us all and showing that, having that determination, not giving up and showing your worth, you can achieve amazing things. Mel is still on a journey back to full fitness and we all know she will continue to do amazing things. With that same attitude, that is something we can all do.
