Last Sunday 11 athletes and a dog called Billy travelled to Cowpen Bewley to take part in the popular Absent Friends Trail Race run over 4.5 miles It was a fine sunny day though muddy underfoot, but the runners rose to the challenge. However, Billy found conditions a bit wuff!.

The best performance came from Dez Fielden, who finished 4th and was 1st 0/40 in 27m:38s, followed closely by Lee Wren 7th in 28:31, then Matt Heron 20th in 30:36 and Peter Milburn 25th and 2nd 0/50 in 32:12. Sue Milburn ran well to finish 56th overall and was 2nd 0/45 female in 36:22.

Later that day 4 runners from the club made the short journey to Richmond to compete in the cross-country. In the Senior Men’s 9.5k race Martyn Knox produced his best performance of the series, 33rd in 43:01.

Cross-country stalwart Colin Gibson ran strongly to finish 61st in 48:13. The club’s two oldest members took part in the men’s 0/65 5k race. Richard Harvey, far from his best after slipping on ice recently still managed to be 1st 0/70 and 5th overall in 28:48. He was followed by Ray Todd 30:58 and 1st 0/75.
