Aycliffe Running Club held their annual awards night at Woodham Golf Club on January 26th. The club is thriving with over 100 members now signed up with a large percentage attending what was an excellent night.
Winners on the night included Dez Fielden who was named male athlete of the year after confirming his position as the club’s fastest runner. Kelly Smith was female athlete of the year despite being ravaged by injury for long periods.
The most improved runner was Michael Smith who has made massive strides over the past year and is becoming ever more competitive around the club.
Both the men’s and ladies club championships went down to the wire with Peter Milburn and Trish Kay claiming the titles. The ever competitive summer handicap series was won by Lee Hoar and Emma Scott who have both shown significant improvements over the year.
Special achievement awards went to Richard Harvey and Tracy Warrior. Richard became national Over 70 champion in the 800 metres and Tracy competed in a staggering 18 club championship races, putting her way out in front as the Running Club’s most dedicated racer.
The Rob Niven award, which is awarded for overall contribution, went to club stalwart Rob Nicholson who has given a lot of time and effort to supporting the club.
Anyone wanting to join Aycliffe Running Club is welcome to come along to training on Thursday nights at Sunnydale Leisure Centre’s Stadium 2000, starting at 6:15.
