Newton Aycliffe RUFC challenge Durham Tigers RLFC to a unique cross code match at Moore Lane.
As the Rugby League season closes to its conclusion the Rugby Union Season starts in a few weeks time. The unique fixture has been organised as a preseason friendly for Aycliffe with a view to test the skills of both squads. It is hoped that the League players will be enticed to switch codes for the coming season. Over the past few years it has become a partnership of sorts as players from the Tigers have enjoyed the code switch with Aycliffe and allowed these players to play virtually all year round.
Aycliffe are in the process of rebuilding a team to emulate the successes of three seasons ago. Training has increased its intensity to Tuesday evenings, Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. Club Coaches Bob Malvern and Chris Richards have seen a steady progress in preparation for the coming season. However they will welcome any new player to join the club. Whether the players are experienced or not. As long as they are male, over 17 and reasonably fit. The training is an integral part of being a club member and is encouraged right through the season.
The match takes place on 24th August at Moore Lane KO 2.30pm.
The first half will be played Rugby League code, and then switched to Rugby Union for the second half. It’s going to make interesting viewing for any Rugby fans out there who would be most welcome to watch the match.
If anybody would like to join Newton Aycliffe RUFC as a player please turn up for training at 7.00pm Tuesdays and Thursdays or 11.00am Saturdays. Volunteers are also welcome to the club male or female. Aycliffe rugby appreciates all supporters.
