The model railway ex-hibition, organised by the Rotary Club of Newton Aycliffe, held last Saturday at the Youth Centre, Burn Lane, broke all previous records with some 720 visitors and raising in excess of £2000 for the Heel and Toe Charity, serving children suffering from Cerebral Palsy in our area.
Top quality layouts from as far away as Welshpool in mid Wales and Spalding as well as from across the North East were on show in a wide variety of scales along with traders selling new and used equipment, bookstalls and preservation societies.
Visitors were kept well fed from the Centre Café with the speciality bacon butties going down a treat.
The Exhibition Manager John Burrows said “We are delighted with the record attendance and the monies raised for this worthy charity. Our thanks go to our sponsors Sabre Rail of Newton Aycliffe, Barclays Bank, Great Aycliffe Town Council and Durham County Council.”
The event was honoured by the presence of Cllr Mary Dalton, Mayor of Great Aycliffe Town Council and Rotarian Terry Long, District Governor of Rotary North East.
