Last year Newton Aycliffe Rotary Club provided a defibrillator in Tesco’s for use in the event of someone having emergency heart failure. Since then Tesco’s have decided to install defibrillators in all their stores nationwide at their own expense.
As a consequence the Rotary Club had a spare machine so decided to donate it to Moore Lane Sports Club and it was handed over to Secretary Pat Flynn by the President Denese Cartwright accompanied by Rotarians Jill Thompson and Geoff Batchelor. Pat expressed thanks on behalf of the club and said how grateful they were to know they had this life saving equipment.
The Rotary Club is encouraging organisations and schools in the town to have defibrillators available not only for their own use but for the neighbouring community.
It is essential when someone with sudden cardiac arrest and needs defibrillation that they receive treatment within 8 minutes.
