If you’re going to miss seeing Jeremy Corbyn and Theresa May on your TV screens during parliament’s summer recess, head down to Gala Theatre to get your political fix. On Wednesday, 12 July, one of Britain’s most wellknown impressionists Rory Bremner will perform in Durham as part of his latest tour. The BAFTA-winning entertainer, best known for satire show Bremner, Bird and Fortune, is on a mission to make sense of today’s ever-changing political landscape – and he won’t be short of things to talk about. “Politics are so fluid at the moment that the show is almost a work in progress.
There will be a significant element that will change as the tour goes on,” he said. “It’s almost as if satire is redundant – politicians are doing my job for me. But what I hope I do is try to make sense of things and rediscover the truth in this post-truth era. I want us to engage with what’s going on, but be entertaining at the same time.” As well as his own political satire show, Bremner has appeared on many of Britain’s top comedy shows including Spitting Image, Whose Line is it Anyway, Have I Got News for You and Mock the Week. In his first tour since 2010, audiences can expect to see current US President Donald Trump alongside Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson – as well as some old favourites you may not have seen for a while.
The current prime minister will also be making an appearance as Bremner is joined by impressionist Jan Ravens, who does a startlingly accurate impression of Mrs May. Comedian Jo Caulfied, a regular guest on shows including Never Mind the Buzzcocks and Comedy Store, completes the lineup. Tickets for the show, taking place on Wednesday, 12 July, cost £20 or £18 for concessions and can be bought at www.galadurham.co.uk
