The current Committee/Trustees of the Agnew Community Centre wanted a permanent record of how and why the New Community Centre came about. They came up with the idea of naming the Hall & Meeting Room after people connected to the building and Centre.
It was decided to name the Hall after Cllr Agnes Armstrong who was the Leader of the Sedgefield Borough Council at the time of us receiving £278.000 from their LIP Funds to build the centre and provide a security perimeter fence, 4 years ago. Agnes who said she felt honoured is shown in the photo with the Chairman Paul Gittins (left).
The Meeting Room is named after the late Katy Gibson who was associated with the centre for countless years in the old wooden hut and became the first President in 2009.
Her son Bob attended the ceremony and is shown with the current President Jean Cochrane who was both a friend and colleague of Katy. Bob said he was very impressed with his first visit to the centre and was proud of his Mother’s association with the community.
