Online homewares retailer, Roman at Home (www.romanathome) has launched a mobile version of their website to provide users with the convenience and flexibility of being able to browse and purchase products on any mobile device on the move.
Roman at Home is a luxury homewares company, offering an inspired collection of everyday luxuries and essential products for use all over the home. Their products range from essential and indulgent items for the bathroom, from storage and shelving products, to your kitchen and dining room essentials, and from vintage style garden furniture to picnic hampers, so you can indulge in alfresco dining.
Roman undertook extensive research into their website activity, the findings showed that a substantial 45% of visitors to the homewares website use a mobile device, with 15% of visitors specifically from a mobile phone and the other 30% using a tablet.
To correspond with these figures, according to the Office for National Statistics, access to the internet using a mobile phone more than doubled between 2010 and 2013, from 24% to 53%. In 2013, 72% of all adults bought goods or services online, up from 53% in 2008. Using this research and their own analytical data, Roman saw this as the perfect opportunity to optimise their website to cater for the popular use of mobile devices.
The responsive designed website is designed to adapt to the screen size of the user’s device, so it will deliver the mobile version of the website when visiting from a mobile phone, but for larger devices, such as tablets, users will still enjoy the full desktop version.
The homepage of the mobile website presents the most popular and necessary links that people are most likely to access, such as the main product ranges, the check-out, offers and the simple search bar to easily find products. The full product details are still clearly visible to the customer with the option of viewing larger images of the product; the larger image opens a new browser window, which also gives you the ability to zoom in to view the product, so the user can make their purchasing decision as easily as they can when viewing the full screen size.
Roman at home wants to create a website for the user which is adaptable to their lifestyle and offers them the opportunity to browse and purchase from the site using any mobile device. The website is easy to navigate with simple one finger buttons and it is presented in a straightforward way to view on a smaller screen.
