Leading international shower designer and manufacturer, Roman, celebrated winning the Queen’s Award for international trade with all staff at Roman Headquarters last Friday.
Roman announced in April 2017 that they won the Queens Award for International Trade and they have just celebrated the award with all Roman staff. This ceremony was held at Roman headquarters where there was a presentation made by the Queens representative, the Lord Lieutenant of County Durham.
The Lord Lieutenant was formally welcomed to Roman by Managing Director David Osborne. She was given a tour of the showroom and the manufacturing plants and met members of the workforce along the way. Sue Snowdon, the Lord Lieutenant gave a speech and presented David Osborne with the Queens Award glass chalice. David congratulated all staff on this exceptional achievement; presented them with a Queens Award memorabilia mug; and held a buffet with a glass of champagne. The award also coincided with David’s 25th anniversary at Roman.
Roman has been awarded the Queens Award for International Trade as they have shown a substantial and sustained increase in export earnings over three consecutive 12 month periods, to a level which is deemed outstanding. The Queens Award for Enterprise is the most prestigious corporate accolade that a UK business can win.
The Queens Award is made on the advice of the Prime Minister after examination of applications by an Advisory Committee composed of leading individuals from industry, commerce, trade unions and government. The awards were conferred by her Majesty the Queen on her birthday – 21st April.
As part of the Queens Award, Roman was invited by the Queen to attend a winner’s celebratory evening held at Buckingham Palace with Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Wessex, Countess of Wessex, Princess Royal and Duke of Kent
David Osborne, Managing Director of Roman, commented: “Our sustained investment, patience and belief over the last 10 years in developing our international markets has proved a great success and for this to be recognised in such a way is a very proud achievement. We have developed unique capabilities which have in turn created so many opportunities with major International Hotel Groups. We are thrilled to celebrate this fantastic achievement with all staff as everyone has played their part in winning the award.”
As Aycliffe’s own newspaper Newton News was privileged to be invited to cover this special occasion for Roman whose achievements over 50 years at Aycliffe is truly remarkable. We remember Gerry when he started and asked Newton Press to print his signature logo labels of a Roman Centurion. We still receive print orders from the family business and feel they are a valued part of our community, employing many people from the town.
Lord Lieutenant Sue Snowdon was a brilliant representative for the Queen, elegant, eloquent and so outgoing to all she met. It was a lovely event and on behalf of the townspeople congratulate Roman on their success.
