ROC Group in Newton Aycliffe is celebrating after director Sally Bishop won The Employer of the Year Award at the National Children & Young People Awards at the IIC in Birmingham.
The gala dinner, attended by 800 health and social care professionals, celebrates excellence and quality care in the sector.
“I was absolutely delighted,” said Sally whose company employs more than 100 people and works alongside 500 vulnerable children, young people and family members in Co. Durham and Teesside. Their portfolio includes children’s homes, CQC Outstanding support for children and young people with additional needs, specialist housing for 16 to 18-year-olds transitioning to independence and supported and supervised contact.
“It’s an important award as it recognises how, as a company, we are constantly using innovation and learning to help children and young people achieve their potential.
“But that’s only a part of the story. The other vital part is the team of passionate, professional people I work alongside. Without them we wouldn’t be as effective or win awards like this,” said Sally.
“Our core values and culture are really important to us and we work hard to make every single staff member feel appreciated and valued. I can’t count the number of thank you cards, bouquets and other surprises we give to colleagues every year in recognition of going the extra mile!”
The citation described Sally as an inspirational leader who enjoys celebrating everyone’s successes. The judge said:
“Director Sally Bishop and her team thrive on giving the children and young people opportunities to achieve their full potential. They focus on small things to make a big difference and celebrate every win. A motivational and committed organisation.”
The company was shortlisted for a further three awards at the event.
ROC Solid, a supporting housing charity co-founded by fellow directors Dot and Derek Butler in 2005, won the national 2022 Housing with Care Award earlier this year.
