On Wednesday 1st July Year 6 pupils from Vane Road Primary welcomed very special visitors to their classroom. John Findlay, director of Roaming Robots, arrived with his robot Matilda. The children spent the morning with John, an original crew member from the TV programme Robot Wars, designing and building their own robots before challenging each other to a thrilling battle to determine whose design proved to be the most powerful.
Inspiration was gleaned from John’s original robots, Matilda, Splinter and Ripper but the children’s imagination ran rampant as they engaged in this Science and Design Technology topic based challenge. Head of Curriculum, Mrs Costello was delighted by the enthusiasm and creativity shown by everyone and all agreed that it had been an exciting, creative and scientifically productive experience.
